Awareness against Child Labor
Child labor is one of the most serious threats to a child's proper development. According to the ILO, an estimated 160 million children are involved in child labor worldwide at the start of 2020. In 2013, the figure in Bangladesh was 17 lakhs. Without any mitigating measures, UNICEF fears that the number will rise by the end of 2022 as a result of COVID-19.
To address the country's child labor problem, the government of Bangladesh signed the ILO's Minimum Age Convention in 1973. This step prohibits the participation of any child under the age of 15 in any form of paid labor. However, without community awareness, this step may be ineffective. So, we held a program to raise awareness about child labor for our sponsored children. They took part in the program and created cards and posters to spread awareness throughout the community.
